Last week, a flurry of rumours were swarming around the internet stating that Nintendo would replace any Nintendo Switch bought after 17 July with a newer model. Well, it was all fake news – everybody go home.
The rumours about the Switch exchange program began on Reddit, where a number of users claimed to have confirmed that Nintendo was indeed exchanging old Switch models for the latest ones. Inevitably, many took to the internet to lament over Switches that they bought on day one or just shy of the exchange programme qualification date – but the dream was very short-lived, as a Nintendo spokesperson quickly debunked the claims over the weekend.
“We do not have a Nintendo Switch exchange program. We always want players to enjoy their Nintendo Switch systems, and if anything ever gets in the way of that, we encourage them to visit http://support.nintendo.com for support, or to contact our consumer support team.”
In other words, no Switch replacement – boohoo. Regardless, the Switch is still a pretty neat console to own, so at least you have that going for you.
