So, if you needed any more proof that EA are the actual worst, I mean, it’s the Guinness Book of World Records, guys, that, like, really means something.
The comment appeared in 2017, on a subreddit thread titled “Seriously? I paid 80$ to have Vader locked?”. This was a time of peak ire over Star Wars: Battlefront 2, its progression system, and that whole loot box situation. Players were “mildly upset” that it would, for instance, take around 40 hours of multiplayer grind to earn enough in-game credits to purchase Darth Vader as a playable character. One EA employee’s response took the brunt of the community’s wrath, gaining 667,822 downvotes.
The intent is to provide players with a sense of pride and accomplishment for unlocking different heroes.
This amazing accomplishment made it into the 2020 Guinness Book of World Records, as discovered by Reddit-user amasha, although it lists the number of downvotes as 683,000. The next most disliked Reddit comment only has 88,906 downvotes, proving that Battlefront’s Reddit community is the angriest of all. Hooray.
Getting into the record book just takes an application, including evidence of the achievement, but it’s unclear who applied for this comment’s inclusion.
