Gears 5 is a megahit for Xbox Game Studios

The Coalition’s new game has busted records since its launch last week, Microsoft has confirmed, making it the biggest ever first-party Xbox release this console gen and doubling the first week stats of 2016’s Gears of War 4.

Those numbers are definitely boosted by the fact that Gears 5 launched simultaneously on the Xbox Game Pass subscription service for console and PC, but its Steam sales are impressive too.

“On the PC, Gears 5 has nearly tripled the performance of its predecessor,” Xbox marketing boss Aaron Greenberg adds in an update on Xbox Wire, “becoming the biggest-ever launch for Xbox Game Pass for PC, and Xbox Game Studios’ best-ever debut on Steam.”
