Offspring World of Tanks

The Offspring wants you to come out and play World of Tanks

Yes, The Offspring is still making music, even though they peaked in the 90s, and now you can watch them perform in World of Tanks. Nothing weird about that.

The Offspring performed an actual concert on Sunday at this year’s Wargaming Fest: Tanker Day in Minsk, Belarus, the birth place of World of Tanks, so at least this virtual one isn’t coming out of nowhere. If you’re a fan, and couldn’t make it to Minsk in time, The Offspring will be playing in World of Tanks from tomorrow. You’ll find them in the game Garage.

World of Tanks is a free-to-play, online multiplayer game revolving around battles and races between authentic tanks from the mid-20th century. It was ragingly popular in its day, with 60 million registered users in 2013, but, at almost 10 years old, its player numbers are starting to drop. The Offspring was the soundtrack to my teens, their player numbers have been dropping since 2000, and they’ve got a new album coming out soon. I imagine this concert is being used as publicity for that, because there’s so much overlap between The Offspring and mid-20th century tank fans…

It’s no more weird than Korn performing in AdventureQuest, really.
