Fourth instalments of John Wick and The Matrix set for same-day release while Akira is off the menu completely

Which Keanu will you choose? Why not both? Go on, it’s the Neo-John-Wick sandwich you’ve been dreaming of.

Warner Bros. recently released their future film schedule and it seems like it’s going to be Neo vs. John Wick on 21 May 2021 as the fourth Matrix movie, featuring Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, and the Mindhunter guy (Jonathan Groff), has the same release date as John Wick: Chapter 4, featuring Keanu Reeves and an adorable pupper.

The Matrix 4 appears to have gained this date in order to replace the beleaguered live-action Akira, which was originally set to go up against John Wick, but is no longer on the production schedule. Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok and anything else good) was poised to direct the Akira manga adaptation, but delays with the script, and creative differences, caused production to be pushed too close to Waititi’s commitments to Thor: Love and Thunder. This meant Akira could only start once Thor: Love and Thunder was complete and, now, it seems like everyone has given up, especially Warner Bros.

We can hope, though.

Well, I know which Keanu I’m watching first, even though Neo would probably win in a fight, what with all his filthy, literal, hax.
