Yes, Lethal Weapon 5 is in development at Warner Bros., with the original cast, and I blame Bad Boys for Life.
The last Lethal Weapon movie came out in 1998, some 22 years ago, but there was also a more recent TV series, that lasted three seasons before getting cancelled in 2019, so, technically, this isn’t coming out of nowhere. Although, I’d imagine fans of the movies and fans of the series are two very different creatures.
Lethal Weapon 5 will bring back Danny Glover (73) and Mel Gibson (64), as legendary buddy-cops Murtaugh and Riggs, and Richard Donner (90), director of all four previous movies. I’m guessing the plot will revolve around the retired detectives being called in to deal with some old school threat nobody understands, because everyone else is too busy on their phones, or something. Also, there will almost certainly be a plucky young detective following them around, to keep them in line, while also learning important lessons about friendship and witty banter.
Yes, I enjoyed the originals. I’m just wondering if this last hurrah is completely necessary. Anyone out there looking forward to the final adventures of Murtaugh and Riggs?
