One Piece Straw Hats

Gather your nakama, because Netflix is getting a live-action One Piece series

Luffy’s unrelenting, often side-tracked, quest for the One Piece will be going live action with a series on Netflix.

Tomorrow Studios, the same company working on the live-action Cowboy Bebop, will be adapting mega-popular One Piece as a 10-episode, live action series for Netflix. Its creator, Eiichiro Oda, will be working on the series as an executive producer.

One Piece revolves around Monkey D. Luffy and his Straw Hat pirate crew, on their search for the One Piece, a fabled treasure that will earn its finder the coveted title of Pirate King. Obviously, a lot of other, often very dangerous, people are also after it. Along the way, Luffy’s crew makes friends, tangles with the corrupt World Government, amasses some absurd bounties, makes some more friends, nearly dies a bunch of times, fights a bunch of other pirates, makes more friends, and causes you to feel more emotional about a pirate ship than you ever imagined you could be.

Will they ever find the One Piece, or was friendship the real treasure all along? We’ll probably only know in five years time, when Oda finishes the manga.

Not sure this will work, given how weird a lot of One Piece is, but I really hope this means Netflix will get all the anime, too. I lost track around episode 554.
