Half-Life: Alyx

Valve Index might be back in stock on Monday

But there won’t be enough to satisfy demand and this new stock will almost certainly run out well before the day is done. So… you’re saying there’s a chance?

Valve is rushing to fulfil demand for its Index VR headset before Half-Life: Alyx launches on 23 March. They sold out pretty soon after announcing that Alyx would work best on their new system even though the game is entirely compatible with the majority of the other VR systems available. The stock problem was then compounded by the coronavirus, as much of China’s manufacturing industries have shut down in an effort to curb the spread of the virus.

Now, if this leak is to be believed, it seems that the Index will be back in stock on 9 March at 19:00 SAST. The system has never been available to buy in South Africa, but some of our comrades have found a way to secure the $1000 (around R15,300 plus whatever delivery and import tax costs) system.

Will you be standing in virtual line, come Monday? Are you paying an expat to do it for you? Bond repayments? I don’t know him.

To tide you over, here’s some gameplay for the game most of us won’t get to play:
