Bad news, everyone, it’s because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Yaaay….?
Niantic is temporarily changing some of Pokémon GO’s game mechanics so that people can still play the monster-gathering game without having to wander around public spaces so much, or at all, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
So, what is Niantic doing, exactly, to improve your self-isolation situation? Habitats are being increased, so that trainers will see more pokémon nearby, you will be able to make a one-time purchase of a bundle of 30 incense, that increases pokémon spawns, for 1 PokéCoin (99% discount) which will, now, last an hour, the steps required to hatch an Egg have been halved to reduce hatching time, and Gifts will drop more frequently.
All of these changes are already in the game and will remain until “further notice”. Niantic has also postponed its upcoming Abra Community Day, a limited-time event that, amongst other things, includes a vastly increased spawn rate for Abras which, if evolved into an Alakazam during the event, would learn a mystery special move.
So, stay inside, because “Gotta Catch ‘Em All” does not include the coronavirus.
