Baldur’s Gate 3, as the name suggests, is linked to the previously instalments in the series and follows on from actions taken in the previous games’ plot lines, with returning characters and everything. It might not be obvious from the start, but it is an actual threequel, in case you were worried.
Custom characters will be fully voiced and their backstory will be determined by the race, class, and background you choose. Your custom character will be central to the story arc, will be no less important than the pre-made Origin characters, and your choices will determine how your companions, enemies, and multitude of other NPCs react to you.
There will be party banter.
The game is based on D&D 5e, but some of its features will not be available in Early Access (although Larian does intend to include them for launch), such as feats, reactions, and multiclassing. You will also only be able to play as a Cleric, Fighter, Ranger, Rogue, Warlock, or Wizard, in Early Access, with the rest of the 5e classes becoming available at launch.
But, when will Baldur’s Gate 3 be coming out? “When it’s ready”.
