Transformers Movie

There’s an animated Transformers prequel movie in the works

And, apparently, it has nothing to do with the Michael Bay movies, so that’s promising already.

According to Deadline, the upcoming animated Transformers movie will be an origin story, based on the Transformers’ home world Cybertron, focussing on the relationship between Megatron and Optimus Prime. The iconic rivals were besties before that whole civil war, assassination attempt situation that caused Optimus and his Autobots to flee for Earth.

In these viral times, it’s far easier to work on a large-scale animated feature, while maintaining social distancing, than it is to produce a live action film, so Paramount and Hasbro’s eOne studio are pushing forward with its production. The script is being written by Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari (Ant-Man and the Wasp) and they’ve recently acquired Josh Cooley (Toy Story 4) to direct. It’s early days, so there’s no voice cast news yet.

While we’re waiting for that to happen, Netflix recently announced that they’ve got an animated Transformers series in the works and there’s also a live action Beast Wars movie to look forward to. What a time to be alive and a Transformers fan.
