Eskom dials loadshedding threat level to “get ready, lol”

Because 2020 isn’t bad enough already, South Africa’s Voted Worst Since 2005 utility company has started, uh, “managing expectations” about its previous commitment to keeping the power on during lockdown, with a “high possibility” of loadshedding warning for tonight. And presumably also tomorrow, the weekend, and next week.

According to Eskom’s announcement on Twitter, unit failures and unfinished maintenance at multiple locations have “added significant pressure to the generation system” and customers are asked to “reduce electricity usage” so it’s our fault for using the hot water tap when the power goes out anyway.
