You can look forward to harvesting more organs to pay for whatever next-next-gen Xbox console awaits us in the future. Who even needs kidneys?
In a recent interview with Yahoo! Finance, Xbox head Phil Spencer reiterated that Microsoft will be bringing out new Xbox consoles after the Xbox Series X & S settle in, despite their push to get people interested in game streaming with xCloud.
In terms of future hardware, absolutely I think we’re going to see more console hardware down the road. Just like in video, just like in music, it’s not that streaming has cut off device innovation. I think we’ll continue to see that, and that’s absolutely what we’re planning for.
Spencer has already mentioned that this is the case, but people keep asking. Yes, eventually, everyone will be streaming games directly to their neural jacks because we will have achieved global internet consciousness, and the outside world will be too ravaged by climate change and disease to function in, but we’re not quite there yet – hooray.
Microsoft’s xCloud game streaming service was recently added to the Xbox Game Pass at no extra charge, but has yet to be officially launched in South Africa. Feel free to test it out if you have access to a VPN and a speedy-enough internet connection, though.
The Xbox Series X & S are due to launch in SA on 10 November. Pre-orders are currently open.
