Wolfwalkers is a hand-drawn animated film from the director of Song of the Sea and The Secret of Kells and I’m sensing a theme.
In Wolfwalkers, apprentice wolf hunter Robyn journeys to Ireland with her wolf-hunting father to help wipe out the last remaining wolf pack. While there, she befriends Mebh, a girl looking for her mother and who also happens to be part of a tribe of people that can transform into wolves. Conflict ensues when Robyn discovers she, too, has the ability to become a wolf by night, since that’s the one thing her dad is super-good at murdering.
Much like director Tomm Moore’s previous work (you can find Song of the Sea on Netflix), Wolfwalkers was created using some gorgeous hand-drawn animation, which is becoming more rare with the popularity of CG. Not that CG is automatically bad.
Just from the trailer, I know that I must own this. On an actual DVD, no less. A little disappointed Netflix didn’t get this one.
Wolfwalkers is due out in theatres and on Apple TV+ on 11 December 2020.
