EA Investor Day Round-Up

If you own shares in EA, you would probably have been aware that EA held its Investor Day webcast yesterday. The company showcased its plans for future growth and hoped for those with deep pockets to keep giving it money.

While this doesn’t spur up much excitement as, say, an Xbox Showcase, it does give EA a platform to show us regular gamers what they have in store for the future of their IPs.

During the three-hour-long event, the word “billion” was thrown around quite a lot as EA plans to leverage the billions of players generating content in and around their IPs. This means they want to create more multiplayer or social-driven experiences for users to play and interact with over the coming years.

This brings us to the first major highlight of the event: The Sims 5 will not be a thing.

That’s not to say that The Sims is ending; rather, EA plans to create an experience where users will not have to restart their progress with every new iteration of The Sims.

Kate Gorman, General Manager of The Sims at EA, said to Variety after the event:

We don’t want to reset your progress. And so it’s not about as much of what the numbers are in the games, but know that the future of the franchise looks more like keeping your progress, keeping things across titles, and really having an ongoing experience, and not a start-and-stop experience between products.

EA still plans to release further updates for The Sims 4 in the form of DLCs and more ways to play on different platforms, allowing players to keep their progress and grow their journey in The Sims even further. EA is also still planning to release Project Rene, which we all thought would be the next The Sims game, although, after this announcement, it’s clear that Project Rene will be a different title, focused on multiplayer social experiences.

There was also a minor update on the new The Sims movie. EA said that they were very excited about it but can’t give us any details surrounding the film until The Sims’ 25th Birthday next year. We do know that Margot Robbie’s production company, LuckyChap, is involved with the movie direction, and is being co-written by Kate Herron and Briony Redman.

Of course, there was much chatter about the future of Battlefield, one of EA’s biggest IPs. Vince Zampella, the CEO of Respawn Entertainment, announced that Battlefield fans of old should be excited about the game’s future as it brings back it’s huge maps, intense fights and a plethora of vehicles. Check out our Battlefield post here for more details.

We also got sad news about EA’s lightsaber single-player franchise, Jedi Survivor. The third iteration of the game will be the franchise’s final. Laura Miele, president of EA Entertainment and Technology, said that “Over 40 million Star Wars fans have connected with Cal Kestis and his arc of becoming a powerful Jedi,” but “Respawn is working hard to bring the final chapter of this thrilling story to players.”

No details on the third Survivor game were revealed, but at least we get one last dance with Cal and his glowstick.

Skate fans also have something to look forward to as EA finally announced that the game would be kick-flipping into early access in 2025. While they didn’t announce much else, the official Skate account did release a short video teasing us on what we can expect from the game when it releases.

Gamers on the Apex Legends side of life can also rest easy knowing that EA is committed to the game for the coing future. While nothing major was announced, EA did commit to more content in the form of passes and more gameplay styles to keep things exciting.
