Your Esports Weekly Recap

Another week of nail-biting esports was on offer for us to enjoy, but if you missed out on it all, we’ve wrapped it all up in a nice, neat recap for you. Has your favourite team made it to the top? Or did they fail at the very last minute? Find out below!

League of Legends:

This week saw the finals and third-place playoffs take place at the Esports World Cup, being held in Riyadh. After losing to AG.AL, T1 faced G2 in the third-place play-offs and showed the Europeans that if they couldn’t take the main cup, they weren’t going to go home without a podium finish.

Gen.G took on AG.AL in the finals which turned into a 5-game heated battle that had spectators on their toes. With AG.AL fighting to the very last minute, Gen.g dominated them in game 5, securing the top spot in both the Esports World Cup and the MSI for 2025.

With both tournaments done and dusted, the regional split carries on, showcasing the remaining teams from around the world hunting for those final spots at Worlds.

Dota:

Since our last recap, the Dota 2 third-place play-offs and grand finals at the Esports World Cup also took place. PVision lost to Team Spirit in their semi-final game and had to take on Tundra Esports for the final podium spot. In a clean 2-0 sweep, PVision secured its spot. However, all eyes were on Team Falcons in the finals to see if they could keep up their win streak. Unfortunately, Team Spirit had other plans and destroyed the Falcons with a clean 3-0 sweep.

Counter Strike:

The Play-in stage for IEM Cologne kicked off on Wednesday, and we’ve already seen a few teams knocked out, while others are fighting their way through the losers’ bracket to secure their group stage spot.

Faze Clan, Ninjas in Pyjamas and GamerLegion are three of the eight teams that have joined the Group stages alongside the pre-qualified Team Vitality, G2 Esports, Team Falcons, The MongolZ, MOUZ, Natus Vincere, Aurora Gaming and Team Spirit.

More games are running as you read this, so get that popcorn popping!

Valorant:

The third week of the Chinese VCT Stage 2 regional started over the past few days, with some spicy matches and a few killer headshots. Wrapping up week 2 on Saturday and Sunday last week, TYL defeated TEC 2-0, EDG lost to TE 1-2, DRG beat AG 2-1, and XLG swept the Wolves with a 2-0 victory.

The third week saw BLG wrap things up 2-0 with TEC and FPX defeating DRG 2-1.

This weekend, groups 2 and 3 will face off to wrap things up, securing 30 teams from each region to play in the grand finals. Apex Legends:

The esports season for Apex Legends takes a break until the Last Chance Playoffs kick off in October. This will be the last opportunity teams have to secure a spot in the 2026 ALGS Championships.

EA FC/Rocket League:

The next major RLCS tournament will be the Esports World Cup, which kicks off on the 14th of August, whereas EA FC will start playing ball in the FC Pro 25 World Championship on the 7th.

Street Fighter:

Blink Respawn threw some epic punches last week, with multiple fighters attempting to secure first place and a qualifying spot to Capcom Cup 12. The final bracket, featuring eight players with more than five hailing from Japan, saw some brutal matches.

In the end, Fuudo battled his way up from the losers’ bracket to defeat Momochi twice in the final match, stealing away that first-place prize.

The Esports World Cup is showing up this year with some great matches across all games. If you want something to watch this weekend, you should hop onto their YouTube live streams. Otherwise, we’ll catch you in the recap next week.
