Only the base game is free, so none of the DLC, but that’s still quite enough to keep you occupied for a weekend. Borderlands 3 will have you planet-hopping around the galaxy in an effort to prevent the obnoxious Calypso Twins from ending the universe. Y’know, for the ‘Gram. The couch co-op, and a bunch of other gameplay irritations, has vastly improved since we originally reviewed it, so grab a friend (that already resides in your household) and get to looting. Or, go for online co-op, and play with three other humans, of your choosing, from the safety of your separate homes.
Borderlands 3 is free to play for different time periods on the different platforms, so check out the schedule below (all times localised to South Africa):
Xbox One: 09:00 Thursday, 6 August – 8:59 Sunday, 9 August
PlayStation 4 (PlayStation Plus required): 18:00 Thursday, 6 August – 18:00 Sunday, 9 August
Steam: 17:00 Thursday, 6 August – 19:00 Wednesday, 12 August
Google Stadia: 18:00 Thursday, 6 August – 18:00 Monday, 10 August
To find the free version of Borderlands 3, search for the Standard edition in the applicable online store. If you decide to buy it, you get to keep all your progress and all that sweet, sweet loot.
