Krapopolis, created by Rick and Morty’s Dan Harmon, will also help sell you NFTs. Isn’t that fun? It is, right? Isn’t it?
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Krapopolis is an animated comedy show about ancient Greece “centred on a flawed family of humans, gods and monsters that tries to run one of the world’s first cities without killing each other”. But it will also be “the first-ever animated series curated entirely on the Blockchain”. It’s meant to tie in with the launch of Fox’s new NFT company, Blockchain Creative Labs. Basically, the new show is just a way to sell you NFTs – cool.
But what are NFTs again? NFTs (non-fungible tokens) are bits of unique digital information (pictures, GIFs, video game items, etc.) that can be purchased, with their owners tracked by blockchain. Some of them are worth an absurd amount of money, for mystery reasons, and they’re also probably killing the planet. Totally worth it to own Nyan Cat.
Anyway, Krapopolis will be the first animated show created specifically so that Fox can sell one-of-a-kind artwork to provide “exclusive social experiences to engage and reward super fans”. So, like digital collectibles. Assuming anyone actually likes the show enough to buy some.
Yes, a lot of entertainment is designed to get you to buy things (have you seen children’s cartoons?), but something about how obvious this is puts me right off.
