The Sims 4 Joins CurseForge

Does anyone remember when game publishers used to campaign against mods and the players who used them actively? Well, those days are long gone, and with each big title that embraces customisation comes the opportunity for an entire underground community to step into the light. Today that big title is the Sims.

Last month during the Sims Summit, EA briefly touched on their plans to create a centralised portal for content creators and players. As of yesterday, it’s officially live. With Overwolf as a partner, CurseForge now has its own official and a dedicated page for the Sims 4, where players and content creators can upload and download various mods and custom content.

In a statement from Overwatch, they described this new hub as a better, safer, easier, and much more fun way to use mods with The Sims 4. “This move is an acknowledgement of the creativity and special role that modders and custom content creators have in The Sims 4, it is also a commitment to address Simmers’ and creators’ mod-related pains and to create a better experience for The Sims 4 players.” – Overwolf CEO Uri Marchand.

CurseForge works by offering players access to a library of mods and rewarding in-game content creators for their efforts. It’s also one of the only modding platforms that allow its creators to earn real-world money for their work. Overwolf plans to add features to CurseForge over the next couple of months with Sims 4 players in mind.

For example, a planned Mod Manager function is in the works that will allow players to view their mods with thumbnails, easily find new mods with search filters and categories, automatically detect and remove broken or duplicated mods, manage mod updates, and more.
