Final Fantasy 7 Remake Reveals Why Certain Characters Can See Whispers

One of my first gaming loves, and the first thing I covered here on NAG many moons ago, was a review of a Final Fantasy game. Since then, my love for the franchise has only grown. When Square Enix announced that the remake of Final Fantasy 7 would feature some new features, I was instantly curious.

One of the more significant features to have come to the game is an enemy called Whispers. Now before the sequel to the game, Rebirth launches later this year; Square Enix is ready to answer some fans’ questions and explain aspects like Whispers.

In the early hours of this morning, the official Japanese Square Enix Twitter account dropped some interesting information about the game’s Whispers and why only some characters can see them. I would link the tweet as usual. However, everything was written in Japanese, and I had to use Google translate to read it, so you’ll have to trust me on this one.

So according to what I could translate, Final Fantasy 7 Remake’s Cloud Strife was able to see the Whispers because he came into contact with Aerith Gainsborough, who was originally the only one who could see them. The same applies to other characters who can see the Whispers, such as Barret Wallace and Rufus Shinra because both came into contact with Cloud Strife after he could already see.

The Whispers were added to the game to ensure the right course of destiny unfolds. As the remake’s plot has significantly deviated from the original, many fans are curious how the Whispers will affect the story in Rebirth, which will be released later this year.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake is available on PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
