Rooted – A New Survival Game Using the Beauty that is Unreal Engine 5

The survival genre is massive, and there are many games out there to satisfy your survival needs, so taking the challenge to add another one to the pile must’ve been quite daunting, but the guys at Headlight Studios are up for it.

Rooted is their new game that will be going into its Alpha testing phase soon, and with the small bits of gameplay and real-life motion capture testing videos we’ve seen, it looks like it’s going to be quite the test.

Built on Unreal Engine 5, Rooted hopes to be one of the best-looking survival games out there. Set in the year 2100, after bacteriological warfare has taken out most of the world, your sole task is survival.

From base building to salvaging the items of the past to learn more techniques and maybe what actually happened all those years ago.

Rooted gives off strong Division energy, and the game is trying to set itself apart by being a more realistic take on the survival genre.

The game will also offer a co-op experience, so you won’t have to survive alone, unless you choose to, and there are PvP zones that will probably hold some of the rarer salvage in the game.

It also seems like the team is building the game to allow dedicated server hosting, meaning there will be a wide array of servers out there. Whether you’re into a more casual survival-only experience where your only foe will be the other NPCs in-game or a grittier every man for himself experience, there should be a server out there for you to play on.

If the game looks like it’s up your alley, you can apply for alpha testing on their site here. If it’s something you definitely think you’ll play, you can also pledge to the game for a few extra goodies and guaranteed Beta Access.
