The development team behind Stalker 2 are facing challenge after challenge, but they remain confident that they can still deliver the Stalker experience that everyone is hoping for.
Originally based in Kyiv, GSC Game World underwent quite a few delays in Stalker 2 development due to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war. Taking a public stand against Russia and siding with Ukraine has led to quite a few complications, such as some of their staff joining the fight against Russia and having to evacuate other staff members from the conflict zone.
Recently, the team moved their offices to Prague so that they could put their heads down and focus on the game’s development without being in the middle of a war. However, after about a year and a half of attacks from Russian hackers, an early build of the game was leaked to the public. GSC asked that no one play or view the leaked items as these were intended for internal testing purposes and don’t actually show what the game will be like.
Two months after the leak, the team has been hit by yet another setback. Last week, Thursday, 7 September, an office fire took out one-third of their building in Prague.

It was originally brought to our attention through a Czech article on Vortex and then translated over on Twitter (X). It has been revealed that, luckily no staff were injured in the fire, but one of the floors at the building will require full restoration.
The new report from Vortex claims that the floor affected also housed the backup servers for GSC Game World.
A post on the dev team’s Discord also confirmed the fire and that no one from the team had been injured. While there is no confirmation if the fire will affect the release date of the game, the team still sound determined to continue working hard on Stalker 2.
