There’s no denying that Minecraft is an incredibly popular game. Since its initial release in 2011, it has been growing and evolving with the times and has remained one of the most watched games via streaming platforms to this day.
Now, Mojang has cracked an even more substantial record, selling over 300 million copies. The first and only game to break such a record. Its nearest competitor is GTA V, which boasts a measly 185 million copies sold to date.
On average, Minecraft sees 700,000 cakes baked, 15 million skeletons slain, 915kms travelled on piggyback, 400,000 wolves tamed, 6.7 million diamonds mined and 8.8 million pickaxes made per day!

The game owes its popularity to its extensive variability, from every play through being different in the classic vanilla edition to the widest variety of mods available from different creators, Minecraft offers up an experience that always keeps its players interested.
Minecraft has also seen multiple spin-offs, like Minecraft Legends, Minecraft Dungeons and Minecraft Earth, which have still been unable to outshine the original.
You can catch all the updates for the game and what’s happening in the Minecraft community by checking out their Minecraft Live 2023 video below. It shows off everything that’s happened over the year and what we can expect in the years to come.
With its potential to let anyone’s creative ideas loose into the world and allow others to enjoy it, I’m pretty sure that Minecraft will continue to remain one of the staple games that everyone will play and enjoy for years to come.
Whether you’re one of the more recent purchasers of those 300 million copies or if you’re a Minecraft pro, NAG hosts a few Minecraft community servers that you can hop on and enjoy. Just pop into our Discord to find out more.
