Dungeons And Dragons Is Planning To Dominate Your September

To say Dungeons & Dragons is gearing up for a busy year wouldn’t be fair. Instead, the tabletop roleplaying juggernaut is just planning to dominate 2024, take over the entire month of Septemeber, and dub it DnDember.

As per a press release sent out by Wizards of the Coast, 2024 isn’t just the year of the Dragon; it’s the year of Dungeons & Dragons with a revised Player’s Handbook, Dungeon Master’s Guide, and Monster Manual on its way and that’s just the warm-up.

“This year, we’ll be celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the first publication of Dungeons & Dragons. We’ll take you through the making of the game, bring some of the classic adventures to today’s play, visit the most iconic settings in the D&D multiverse, and kick off the future of the game with the new 2024 core rulebooks that are the heart of the game. We’ve been building up to this for a while now. It’s going to be a lot of fun.”

Initially dubbed OneD&D, the new 2024 rule set for Dungeons and Dragons aims to be a backwards-compatible revamp of the D&D’s 5th edition, overhauling core class mechanics and rules.

This newly revised version of Dungeons & Dragons, in the form of a new Player’s Handbook, Dungeon Master’s Guide, and Monster Manual, will start arriving in Septemeber already and run into 2025.

Wizards of the Coast has also provided some details about the planned campaigns for players to get excited about. Vecna: Eve of Ruin will be a mid-to-late game campaign designed for characters starting at the 10th and ending at the 20th levels.

“The heroes begin in the Forgotten Realms and travel to Planescape, Spelljammer, Eberron, Ravenloft, Dragonlance, and Greyhawk as they race to save existence from obliteration by the notorious lich Vecna, who is weaving a ritual to eliminate good, obliterate the gods, and subjugate all worlds.”

Quests from the Infinite Staircase is also a multiversal campaign designed to take players from the 1st to the 13th level.

“Quests from the Infinite Staircase weaves together six classic Dungeons & Dragons adventures while updating them for the game’s fifth edition. The Infinite Staircase holds doors leading to fantastic realms. It’s home to the noble genie Nafas, who hears wishes made throughout the multiverse and recruits heroes to fulfil them.”

There will also be a Making of Original Dungeons & Dragons: 1970-1976 released this year that will take readers through the inception of Dungeons & Dragons, Gary Gygax’s never-before-seen first draft of D&D written in 1973, and a curated collection of published fanzine and magazine articles contribute to D&D’s origin story.

And finally and most interestingly of all, the 3D virtual tabletop, now called the Dungeons & Dragons Digital Play Experience, will be debuting this year, alongside tournament-style sessions for its upcoming revamp of Descent into the Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth.
