If you’re a Pokémon fan, I don’t need to tell you that yesterday was Pokémon Day. Surely, you already knew because of the 328498124 different Pokémon Day images that were posted on all the Pokémon WhatsApp groups you’re a part of. Dang. I said Pokémon a lot there.
Excitedly, The Pokemon Company found it to be the perfect day to announce their latest Pokemon title, Pokemon Legends: Z-A, planned for a 2025 launch.
The only thing we can gather from the reveal and a short summary on the Pokémon website is that the new Legends game will centre around Lumiose City, the main city from the XY generation of Pokémon games.
The blueprints shown in the trailer point towards creating a city that caters to humans and Pokémon so they can live harmoniously together.
As for the actual story, I have a few theories myself. The “Z” in the titles looks a lot like the legendary Pokémon Zygarde. While only really featured as cores, cells, and their 50% form in the original XY games, being in the Kalos Region hints that Zygarde will play a big role in this new title.

Another theory I have is based on the Pokemon trainer AZ. AZ is a 3000-year-old man who was the former king of Kalos. Take into account that this is a Legends title, meaning we’re going back in time in the Pokémon universe, and the fact that we see blueprints for the Lumiose City we already know, it looks likely to me that we’ll be getting a bit more of a story arc around AZ himself.
While just theories, I’m pretty sure I’m on the right track. We’ll just have to give The Pokémon Company a bit more time to confirm them with another announcement.
If you’re more of a trading card game fan, though, there was also an announcement for a new mobile version of Pokémon TCG for both iOS and Android.
Focusing more on collecting, Pokémon TCG: Pocket will grant players two daily packs for them to rip and swipe through, hopefully adding an extremely rare card to their collection. The game will also feature “Immersive Cards”, allowing players to dive into the card and experience the artwork from a different angle.
For those who prefer actually playing with their cards, you will still be able to build decks and initiate quick battles with your friends.
Not a bad Pokémon Day all around, if I do say so myself. What did you get up to on your PokémonDay? Let us know in the comments.
