For those of you who somehow don’t already know, today is the day Black Myth: Wukong releases. An epic tale based on the folk story, A Journey to the West, that has promised a visually stunning, soulslike experience.
Well, just five hours after it hit Steam this morning at 4 AM, Black Myth: Wukong is already smashing the charts, currently sitting at number four on the all-time high list for concurrent players.
With a peak player count of around 1.4 million players, Black Myth: Wukong has topped other massive single-player RPGs, Elden Ring and Cyberpunk 2077, which means it officially holds the spot for the most concurrent players for a singleplayer game on Steam. PUBG, Palworld and Counter-Strike 2 remain the only three games above it.
As of writing, the concurrent player count still sits at around 1.4 million but has dropped slightly from its peak, just 400,000 players short of pipping Counter-Strike 2 for that bronze medal position. Technically speaking, the Americas should be asleep instead of playing the game, so there might be a chance that Black Myth: Wukong manages to scrape up a few more players. Still, I think the dedicated few stayed up all night long playing the game already, so Counter-Strike 2 is safe for now.
If you’re taking off work today to deep-dive into the Chinese myth, let us know what you think of the game so far.
