Since entering the market a few years back, Skyworth has been offering exceptionally well-priced TVs with built-in Google TV OS.

The company’s fresh take on Smart TVs forced popular brands like Samsung, LG, and Hisense to up their game.

Now that Skyworth has a foot in the door, it’s starting to shift its aims towards gamers, providing high refresh rate, game-ready TVs at a very competitive price point. Naturally, we had to check it out with hours of gaming to gauge its performance.

When the 55-inch Skyworth 55Q7700G QLED Google 4K LED TV  arrived at our offices, December had just rolled in, and I was looking for an excuse not to do any real work.

The Skyworth 55Q7700G is not a bad-looking TV. It’s pretty slim, and on the back, you’ll find the connectivity ports and the speakers, which consists of a large 20w subwoofer and two 15w speakers. The thin, minimalistic stands worried me at first, but the TV was pretty stable once I had set it up.

From here on out, it was all plug-and-play, just like a TV should be.

When Google TV first came out, I found the setup procedure quite a pain, but with the Skyworth 55Q7700G, I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was this time around. The process used to feel slow and delayed, but this time, it felt like I was just setting up a new Android phone.

The viewing could commence once my Google account was connected and I had signed in to my apps. Everything functioned smoothly, and I didn’t experience any delays or lag in navigating the operating system or my apps.

Satisfied that I could get my Netflix/Amazon/Youtube/Disney+/DSTV fix, I moved on to the real reason we had this TV at the office: avoiding work to play games.

With the PS5 connected and my December game, Farm Simulator 2025, up and running, I dove headfirst into farming mielies.
This Skyworth TV performed as expected, pushing out stunning visuals in 4K that had me engrossed in the relaxing farm simulation world I had set up for myself, but Farm Simulator 2025 doesn’t push out 120FPS, so I had to up the ante.

This is when I stepped into my old boots and started up Apex Legends.

Pushing out all 120FPS the PS5 could handle, I could dodge, duck, dip, dive, and dodge my way through some sweaty battles, with the only hindrance being my actual skill to use a PS5 controller.

While the visuals on the Skyworth 55Q7700G checked all the right boxes during my game sessions, there was one other thing that got me excited about this TV, its sound.

As I logged out of the PS5, I popped on some YouTube Music to listen to something while I got back to some real work, and low-and-behold, a party started.

Skyworth’s 55Q7700 G has a built-in 2.1.2 channel “soundbar” that is quite impressive. Even Len commented that it’s some of the best-quality TV speakers he’s heard.

At the end of my time with the Skyworth 55Q7700G QLED Google 4K LED TV, I walked away pretty pleased. Considering the TV costs just under R10,000 and packs a 4K QLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate, it’s perfect for gamers. I also loved all the I/O capabilities, there are three HDMI ports, two USB ports, WiFi, Bluetooth, and a LAN port for a proper internet connection.

I would recommend this TV for gamers who are looking for a well-priced TV that delivers on the visuals.

BOTTOM LINE
The Skyworth 55Q7700G QLED Google 4K LED TV is the perfect value-for-money gaming TV. It has Google TV OS driving all the smart TV features and a panel that delivers 120FPS at 4K resolution. The built-in sound also straight-up delivers the goods, there’s not much more you could ask for, especially at just R10,000.
