I’ve already reviewed two of Xiaomi’s latest entries into the gaming monitor scene: the Xiaomi G27i and the Xiaomi G27Qi, which we featured in the NAG Magazine Autumn Edition 2025. While both of these monitors did reasonably well in the space, the latest Xiaomi display to hit my desk is definitely the best, and most gamiest I’ve tested so far.

Gamiest you say? Well, yes. This one has RGB.

Jokes aside, the Xiaomi G34WQi is packed full of features that make it a stand-out gaming monitor, and it’s pretty well priced considering.

Starting with those features, the Xiaomi G34WQi sports a 1ms response time, 180Hz refresh rate, 1500R curvature, supports ultrawide 21:9 1440p resolution, and is AMD FreeSync compatible.

Behind the display, we get a round RGB on the back of the panel, perfect for dark rooms, VESA mounting points and a solid stand that allows for a 5-degree forward tilt, a 21-degree backwards tilt, an almost 45-degree side-to-side tilt and can raise or lower the monitor from 37mm to 147mm. The base is also nice and flat, meaning it won’t get in the way of your mousepad or keyboard.

Below this new RGB ring, we get 2x HDMI 2.0 ports, 2x DP 1.4 ports, and a 3.5mm audio jack to connect speakers or headphones. For those of you who use the USB ports on the back of your current monitor, you’ll be out of luck here.

The 1500R curve is great for gaming, too. It’s just curved enough to allow for an immersive gaming experience, while still offering a decent ultrawide display for work tasks, should you choose to do Spreadsheets or whatever else your gaming PC hates doing.

The touted 178-degree viewing angle also seems pretty close to life as I can get all the way to the side of the monitor and still clearly view what’s on the screen, even if the colours do get a bit lost.

The peak 350 nits of brightness also played well with my sensitive little eyes. I found the monitor perfectly bright enough to enjoy content on the screen, from video to gaming. This lower peak brightness, however, does mean that HDR content might not pop as much as other gaming monitors out there. While I personally prefer a slightly dimmer view, it may not be for everyone.

When it came down to it, I really enjoyed gaming on the Xiaomi G34WQi. The 1440p resolution is great for immersive games like MMOs, RPGs, and other newer-generation games that thrive on high-resolution detail. *Cough, Cyberpunk 2077 *cough. The 180Hz refresh rate is also great for higher FPS, but there is a slight caveat here. Because the monitor only packs HDMI 2.0 ports on the back, in 1440p, you will only achieve a maximum framerate of 144Hz. The Display Ports will get you all the way to 180Hz, but if you are an HDMI fan, it’s just something to take note of.

Also, because this is a VA panel, at higher refresh rates and in fast, high-action games, you will notice a slight bit of ghosting in the darker areas. However, the VA panel does offer some pretty decent contrasts compared to an esports-level IPS panel, and, at the end of it all, this monitor isn’t trying to be an esports machine; it is a gaming panel that offers some sleek-looking visuals.

As of writing this review, the Xiaomi G34WQi will set you back around R8,500, which is a decent price. When hunting for a monitor with this many features baked in, your pickings will be quite slim, and, for me, the Xiaomi stands out in this price range. However, Takealot is selling the monitor for a sneaky R6,999, a deal I’d jump on before it ends.

BOTTOM LINE
The Xiaomi G34WQi Curved Gaming Monitor is a stunning piece of equipment to have on your desk. It’s large, while still being minimalistic and makes gaming engrossing. The amount of features it packs for its price is also a winner. There are some downside to the cheaper price, but those can be quite easily overlooked.
