Most games have found their EWC champions, but that doesn’t mean the hype has died down. Regional qualifiers for major championships are still underway, while EA FC and Rocket League still await their EWC games to kick off. This past week saw some major defeats, including Gen.G losing their 27-game win streak.
League of Legends:
The second half of the League of Legends regional split has been underway, and countless games are taking place.
Of the most notable regions, LCK and LPL have already shown some epic battles, while LEC, LCP, LTA North and LTA South are set to start their games off this weekend.
In the LCK, we’ve finally seen Gen.G lose their win streak to last year’s Worlds Winners T1, while the LPL has seen heated matches, like BLG taking down WBG 2-0.
Dota:
With the EWC done and dusted, the next big esports tournament for Dota 2 is The International, which kicks off in September. In the meantime the Clasvision Masters is currently underway in China, with the group stages all wrapped up.
The current bracket match-ups see Nigma Galaxy take on Tundra Esports, Team Tidebound face Gaimin Gladiators, Paravision against Xtreme Gaming, and Boom Esports versus Team Yandrex.
Counter Strike:
The serious matches for IEM Cologne start this weekend, and the winners from both groups’ winners’ brackets, Team Vitality and Team Spirit, have already booked their spots in the semi-finals.
The quarterfinal playoffs will see Mouz vs Furia, and The Mogolz vs Natus Vincere, where a single win will march them forward into their best-of-three matchups in the semis.
Valorant:
VCT Stage 2 is still underway, with many regions still facing off in the group stages. Currently China is the only region that has a team with a secured spot in the playoffs.
The current top four standings from each region are:

Mettlestate Update:
This past weekend, the Varsity Esports Split 1 Finals lit up Johannesburg as South Africa’s top university teams, traveled to compete in Valorant, Rocket League, and EAFC25.
With esports now officially recognised as a sports code in Universities, the finals felt like a defining moment for the legitimacy of student esports. Stellenbosch University made a strong statement by qualifying across all three titles and securing podium finishes in both Rocket League and Valorant. Varsity College’s Kennedy walked away champion in EAFC25, while UCT’s Arcane Defenders clinched the Valorant title in a tight match against SU Odin. SU’s Rocket League squad, SU TaMATIES, also powered through to take first place.
With half of the spots secured for the grand finals, the stage is set for a thrilling second split later this year. University esports? It’s officially the real deal.

As we wrap up the epic games from last week, multiple games continue to show up this weekend with even more heated matchups. Are you ready to face the fists of Street Fighter?
