Some major battles took place this past week, whether on the Rift or through the scope of an AWP, fans of esports across all genres have something to be excited about!
The Esports World Cup for Counter-Strike 2 is currently underway, and you may even be able to catch a glimpse of our very own Sam ‘TechGirl’ Wright shouting for her favourite players.
Otherwise, LoL, Dota and Valorant all have some exciting games to catch up on.
Check it all out below.
League of Legends:
As we inch one week closer to the play-offs, teams are slowly losing the opportunity to secure a spot for Worlds, kicking off in October.
In the LCK, Gen.G is still the only team to have solidified its spot in the play-offs. The remaining teams are still fighting it out in the group stages. Just two weeks of games remain.
With only three games left for each team to show what they’ve got the current standing will include the following teams in the bracket stages of the play-offs: HLE, T1, KT Rolster, NS Redforce, DPlus, FearX and Brion.
The Freecs have suffered too many losses to pull out of the relegation spot, but drx still has an opportunity to steal away the spot from Brion.
The LPL is in a similar position, with its bracket-before-the-bracket games kicking off soon. Only one week remains for the bottom teams group to solidify in the qualifying bracket rounds.
TE, BLG, IG, AG.AL, WBG, JDG, WE and FPX are part of the top group, all with a chance to keep their runs going. So far, NiP, EDG, LGD and UP are holding the top spots in the bottom group still keepinmg their chances alive.
On the LEC side of things, the top four teams from each group will make their way to the play-off bracket stage. So far, KCorp, KOI, VIT, and GIA lead Group A, while g2, FNC, BDS and SKG lead Group B. Things look pretty solidified with the current standings, unless Team Heretics can pull off a win.
The Pacific teams have already begun their seeding matches for the playoffs, with CFO and GAM currently fighting it out in the top winners’ bracket slot. VIK and WHA will face each other in the bottom sector of that bracket. PSGT and DFM hold the top positions in the bottom bracket, with CHF and SHG being knocked down to the losers’ sector of the same bracket.
Only four of the eight teams will make it through to the play-offs.
In the Americas, Shopify Rebellion and FLY have already booked a spot in the upper bracket finals, with Cloud9 awaiting their next competitor in the lower bracket matches. DSG, DIG, LYON and 100T all have a chance here.
On the Southern side, paiN and KS have booked their spots for the upper bracket final, with RED waiting for their next challenger. Here, LOUD, Fluxo, ISG and LEV all have a chance.
Dota:
The Fissure Universe: Episode 6 tournament kicked off this week, with many of the group stage games already completed. So far, Team Spirit and Team Liquid have booked a spot in the upper bracket finals, with Team Falcons securing a spot in the lower bracket play-offs. Bet Boom, Parivision, and Aurora Gaming are likely teams to grab those final three spots in the lower bracket.
Counter Strike:
The ESWC for CS2 is currently underway, with our very own Sam “TechGirl” Wright shoutcasting.
The group stage has already seen its fair share of games, with eight of the 16 teams already knocked out. The Quarter Finals have begun, with the rest of the matches taking place over the course of today.
So far, Team Vitality and The MongolZ are in the semi-finals, with Mouz still to play Team Falcons and Aurora Gaming to take on Heroic.
Valorant:
The Group Stage for the VCT 2025 kick off on the 12th of September, and many of the spots from across the various regions have already been secured.
Of the sixteen slots available, only six remain.
From the Americas region, G2 and Sentinals have booked their spots, with two spots still up for grabs. China has locked down all four spots with BLG, EDG, XLG and DRG. Fnatic is the only team to book a spot from the EMEA region, leaving three spots available, and only one spot is left in the Pacific region, with Paper Rex, T1 and DRQ taking the other three spots.
