It’s been a hot minute, or two weeks for normal calendar users, since we last caught up with what’s going down in the esports scene.
Because of that, we have a lot to catch up on.
So, whether you’re still recovering from Con-flu, or just too busy to keep tabs on everything esports, here’s this week’s esports recap.
League of Legends:
On the League side of things, some of the Asian regions took a break with us, so their play-off brackets for a spot at Worlds remain mostly unchanged from two weeks ago. However, in the America’s things are almost about to wrap up, with the last few games taking place this weekend.
Starting off with the LCK, T1 and KT Rolster have qualified for Round 1 of the play-offs, while Gen.G and Hanhwa Life secured their spots in Round 2. FearX has won the winners bracket in the play-ins, meaning they’ll make it through to the playoff rounds, but BRION, DPLUS, and NS RedForce are still battling it out in the losers bracket to see which one of the three qualifies.
On the LPL side, all qualifying spots for the playoffs have been filled, with eight teams vying for that Worlds spot. The first matches of the play-offs will be BLG vs. JDG, IG vs. EDG, AL vs. WEI, and TOP vs. NIP.
In Europe, we have four teams facing off in the winners’ qualifiers, which will see KOI take on FNC, and G2 vs KC, while the losers’ qualifiers, which involve one extra game to play, will have GiantX vs BDS, and Heretics vs VIT.
In the Northern half of America, FlyQuest are sitting pretty in the Grand Finals of the playoffs, awaiting their challenger. Currently, C9 need to play 100T, of which the winner will face Shopify Rebellion. The winner of that match will have to face FlyQuest to try and grab that world’s spot.
The Southern half sits similarly, with KeyD holding their spot in the Grand Finals. LOUD will face RED, with the winners of that match matching up against paiN. Whoever takes the W in that match will need to defeat KeyD for the final world’s spot remaining from the play-off season.
Dota:
The Main Event for The International, Dota’s top tournament for the year, is just days away. Teams have been facing off in the group stages since yesterday, and three teams are already showing the roster who’s most keen on the win.
So far, Xtreme Gaming holds the top spot with a 3-0 scorecard, while Paravision and Team Tidebound, second and third, respectively, are currently duking it out live as we speak.
Of the 16 teams in the cup, the top 10 will make it through to the Elimination Stage.
Counter Strike:
While we were out Comic-Conning our weekend away, the Counter-Strike Esports World Cup was taking place.
The MongolZ secured that $500,000 prize, taking first place, while Aurora Gaming and Team Falcons took second and third, respectively.
The next major event in the CS2 scene is the BLAST Open Fall 2025, where six teams will shoot it out for $150,000.
The qualifying teams, who are already locked, loaded and gunning for the prize, are: MOUZA, M80, FaZe Clan, G2 Esports, Furia and Team Vitality.
Valorant:
The Valorant Championship 2025 will kick off on the 12th of September, and when we last spoke, ten of the sixteen available slots had already been secured.
Now, two weeks later, we finally have the full roster with everyone placed into four different groups.
| Group A | Group B | Group C | Group D |
