Monitors for your PC, or even your console, are such a personal thing.
Some convince their bosses they need 49 inches of real estate for multitasking convenience, others swear by a 24-inch 1080p beast with the highest frame rates for that extra competitive edge, and then there are others who still swear by the classic CRT.
Here at NAG, we think the perfect middle ground for it all is a 27-inch monitor that can push out at least 120Hz, with a 1440p resolution for the perfect mix of beauty and speed.
So, we’ve compiled a list of three 1440p 27-inch monitors that we reviewed at NAG HQ (to a degree) and were sad to send back to the factory.
Alienware AW2725DM
Price: R5,499

While we technically had the 34-inch Ultrawide version of this monitor in for review, we’re confident that the 27-inch Alienware AW2724DM is just as good, if not better in some circumstances.
The AW2724DM comes with a 180Hz refresh rate, a 1ms grey-to-grey response time, 2x HDMI 2.1 ports, a DP 1.4 port, and 2x USB-A downstream ports for convenience. It has an IPS panel behind it all and, of course, it supports a 1440p resolution for a more visually pleasing experience. It’s also Nvidia G-Sync and AMD FreeSync compatible.
Some of our favourite features from the review include the high amount of ports on the monitor, its stunning blue colour, and a well-thought-out design that includes a flat base plate for minimal desk encroachment.

AOC Q27G4XM
Price: R10,345

The AOC Q27G4XM was another great 1440p monitor that we had for review over at NAG HQ.
While it also comes with similar specs to the Alienware, with a 180Hz refresh rate, 1ms grey-to-grey response time and that sweet spot 1440p resolution, the display panel is mini-LED instead of IPS. This means it has even better contrast between colours, deeper blacks and a brigthness level that will definitely need to be turned down. Ports wise we have 2x 2.0 HMDI ports, 1x DP 1.4 port, and a 3.5mm audio jack.
In our review, some of the standout features included how incredibly bright the monitor can get, its ease of setup, and how close the mini-LED panel could get to an OLED panel’s depth of blacks.

MSI MAG 275CQRF-QD

If you enjoy your monitors with a bit more curve, then you might want to check out the MSI MAG 275CQRF-QD. As per the article rules, it’s a 27-inch 1440p monitor with a bit more curve than the rest on this list.
It sports a rapid VA panel that pushes out a 170Hz refresh rate with a 1ms grey-to-grey response time. It also has quantum dot technology, which assists with a more accurate colour display. On the rear, we get 2x HDMI 2.0 ports, 1x DP 1.2a port, a USB-C video port, and 2x USB-A downstream ports, proving to be quite versatile in its use case scenarios.
In our review, we praised the MSI MAG 275CQRF-QD for its sharp visuals, beautiful curves, and great versatility for both PC and console gaming.

There you have it. Three gaming monitors at the perfect size that give you just enough pixels to engross you in any game of your choosing. Plus, some high refresh rates to keep things buttery smooth.
