The Haier Group Officially Launches in South Africa

You have all heard of Haier, right? What about GE Appliances, Fisher, Paykel, Candy or Hoover?

Yup, all the same mega-corporation, and now the Chinese giant is ready to tackle the African continent.

Speaking at a launch event on Monday, Song Yujun, president of Haier’s smart home division for international markets, declared that he wants Haier to be the number one brand in the South African market.

But not only for your day-to-day appliances. He also wants to be the first brand mentioned when South African’s talk about smart homes.

Some of you may have already seen the shift in one of our more prominent local brands, Kwikot, which was acquired by Haier in 2024.

Since then, the company has gone from producing just geysers to smarter tech, including smart heating and monitoring solutions.

This shows how Haier plans to become the leading brand in the country, utilising smart home appliances, from AI-driven fridges to smart TVs, as well as everything in between.

To add even more fuel to the fire, and possibly pique a few of you gaming-savvy enthusiasts, Haier doesn’t only focus on the appliances that you’d usually find in your kitchen.

The company also offers other smart gadgets like cellphones, laptops, and even gaming PCs.

Valued at over R500 billion in January of 2025, this could mean big things for the appliances and smart home devices we start seeing pop up in the country.
