This time last year, Sony was riding high on a wave of one-upmanship and boasting about their 4.2 million PlayStation 4 consoles that had been sold. That figure is now rather quaint as word from Sony HQ in Japan says that the PS4 is now sitting on a figure of 18.5 million units sold globally. Yowzers.

The big spike in sales is, of course, courtesy of the recent holiday period. Between 23 November 2014 and 04 January 2015, people across the globe snaffled up 4.1 million PlayStation 4 consoles. That works out to around 95,000 PS4 consoles selling every day. Gogo gadget capitalism!

In addition to this, since the PS4 launched in November 2013, Sony has sold 81.8 million copies of PlayStation 4 games. That figure likely represents both physical and digital copies. And in case you’re wondering, there are now 10.9 million PlayStation Plus subscribers as of January this year.
