Fortnite recently announced that several Pickaxes are currently disabled in competitive playlists “due to an issue”. What issue, exactly? It’s a secret.
Certain Pickaxes are currently not available to use in competitive Fortnite play, so, if you drop in with one equipped, it will automatically change to the Default Pickaxe and everyone will judge you.
We’ve disabled several pickaxes from competitive playlists. We’ll let you know when these have returned.

To see if your favourite is temporarily banned, here’s the full list:
- Bash Burner
- BB’s Beast Bat
- Gladius of Potassius
- Ol’ Mate Sledgy
- Sorrow’s Reach
- Lovestruck Striker
- Durrburgian Battlespatch
- Mjolnir
- Leviathan Axe
- Forsaken Strike
- Beastfang
- Seven Star Flashing Flail
- Signpost Pummeler
- Devourer’s Bane
- Combat Knife
Unlucky if you spent actual money on any of these, I guess.
Fortnite hasn’t mentioned why they’ve done this, but we have to assume it’s because these particular Pickaxes provide some kind of unfair advantage. Pickaxes are used in the game to harvest resources and in combat, dealing a flat 20 damage per hit. You can change the look of your Pickaxe by earning/purchasing skins, but the skins are just meant to be a cosmetic change, making no difference to the way the actual Pickaxe behaves beyond looking and sounding different. Otherwise, it would be a pay-to-win type scenario and nobody wants that.
Hopefully your favourite Pickaxe will be restored to your sweaty paws soon.
