It’s easy to get caught up in wanting to spend your hard-earned cash on high-end gaming hardware, but the reality is that most of us want something that will do the job without costing a fortune. Logitech’s newly launched G335 is a wired gaming headset that fits somewhere between entry-level and mid-range on the product scale for just over a thousand bucks.

This headset forms part of Logitech’s Colour Collection, which means you can expect a few colour options in the range. Logitech sent me the white version, but you’ll also be able to choose a black or mint coloured variant.

Right out of the box, something feels a little different about this headset compared to others I’ve reviewed; for one thing, the G335 is incredibly light and weighs only 240g; for another, the design feels very tough and can take quite a bit of hard handling. The simplistic design also means there are no intricate moving parts to adjust the headset or microphone arm, which I really liked. Having said that, each earpiece can be adjusted up or down ever so slightly, and there is an adjustable headband to ensure a snug fit over your melon.

The left earpiece houses the microphone boom and the volume control, which is placed on the rear bottom side for easy access. The cups on each earpiece is very comfortable, and there is no pressure around your ears or head when wearing the G335. Even after a few hours of use, I did not feel the normal ear strain from the cushions as I do with the Logitech Pro X Gaming headset that I use daily. I suspect this is due to the lighter weight of this headset in comparison to the more expensive model I’m referring to; it really makes a big difference.

The sound quality is also good compared to the more expensive Pro X Gaming headset. Logitech always impresses me with the audio fidelity of their hardware, and the G335 is no different. Game sounds never feel overpowering at full volume, and even the most bass-heavy song doesn’t seem to put much strain on the two 40mm audio drivers.

The microphone is also excellent, and I’ve had no problem communicating my poor tactical skills to my PUBG squad over the last few weeks. The boom arm is bendable so that you can adjust it to your liking, and I was impressed with how the mic handled pops and hisses. Just as I was about to criticise this headset for not having a mute button, I realised that the audio cuts when you flip the microphone up to store it, a nice little touch.

The Logitech G335 wired gaming headset is a surprisingly good offering in audio performance and price. Logitech says the G335 wired gaming headset will retail for R1,199 when it becomes available in the coming weeks. If you are looking for a headset that will likely outlast your gaming device, the G335 will not disappoint.
