Just Cause is an over-the-top, flamboyant, 90s action movie in a game and back in 2020, Square Enix told us they were bringing that action to our phone with a free-to-play version of the game.
Well, as of the third of July, both the game’s Twitter account and web page have been taken down.
The game promised a story mode, a co-op mode and a competitive multiplayer mode, with all the wing-suiting you could imagine, but sadly it will be no longer.
“It is with great sadness that we are announcing the end of development for Just Cause Mobile.” says Anne-Lou Grosbois-Favreau, the Square Enix brand lead.
So far we haven’t been given an actual reason for the cancellation. Theories are that the game was already 2 years behind schedule and this backlog may have led to the final decision to close up shop. I think they did it Just beCause.
With Apex Legends also dropping their mobile version pretty recently, I hope this isn’t a bad sign of things to come, or not, for those of us that prefer playing on our phones.
