The new generation of foldables has just been officially announced, and we’re ready to get gaming on them.
In their fifth iteration of the series, the Z Flip 5 and the Z Fold 5 are back and looking sleek as all hell, with some major improvements to the cover screen on the Flip and a re-work on the multi-tasking functions on the Fold, yes you can drag and drop with two hands now, these two phones are looking to hold their crowns atop the foldable device dynasty.

But, what would be the best games to play on these devices? Well, you’ve come to the right place, because as someone who’s literally holding these devices in their hands right now, I’ve definitely got the gaming information you need.
Need for Speed: No Limits – Free, with in App Purchases
As with the Z Flip 4, the Flip 5 comes with a 120hz internal screen at a resolution of 2640 x 1080, nothing too crazy compared to a regular, brick phone, but what I do enjoy when gaming on the Flip series is that I can give it a slight bend and it fits a little more comfortably in my hand especially when the controls are located on the left and right edges of the screen. I find this works really well for racing games and my personal favourite racing game on mobile at the moment is Need For Speed: No Limits.

The biggest upgrade on the Flip 5 is its cover screen. Samsung has gone from a 1.9-inch cover screen where you have just enough space for a small media bar to a massive 3.4-inch cover screen where the possibilities are almost endless. At this moment, the cover screen has only got a few apps that can take full advantage of it, namely the Samsung Apps, like messaging and a few Google Apps, like Google Maps and YouTube, however, I can quickly see a lot more apps being used on the cover screen and it would be a great fit for easily checking up on my pet on Peridot. A Tamagothci-like game where I get to care for my very own, 100% unique little creature that’s cute, fluffy and needs all my love all the time.

Mighty Doom – Free, with Ads and in App Purchases
The Fold 5 offers up a lot more options when it comes to screen real estate. You could use its outer-facing screen to play your favourite mobile games, but I find this screen, because it’s just slightly narrower, works best for vertical-style games. Mighty Doom is a great pick and is a heck of a lot of fun when you’ve got some time to kill and you will more than likely spend 3 hours hunting for an upgraded launcher. With 120hz on offer, the rip and tear of the chainsaw ultimate is also very satisfying.

Dead by Daylight Mobile – Free, with in App Purchases
Once you open the fold-up, you’re greeted with a generous 7.6 inch, dynamic 120hz AMOLED Display, with a resolution of 2176 x 1812 pixels. With all this screen to play on, I love taking on games that require a lot of peripheral vision. Games like Dead by Daylight mobile come to mind here, where I need to be checking my back at all times to make sure Arielle isn’t coming at me with her creepy voice lines and an old rusty hatchet that she’s hoping to lodge between my shoulder blades. The larger screen helps here as I get to see just a little bit more than I would on the regular screens that come with other phones and the larger on-screen buttons mean I can still run away while screaming bloody murder.

Harvest Town – Free, with Ads and in App Purchases
The Fold 5 is also a multi-tasking powerhouse, with its 12GB of RAM and the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 to give it that extra oomph, you could easily have a mobile game going on the bottom half of your screen and watching your favourite streamer on the top half of the screen. Something more casual would go nicely in this situation, and my current casual cosy game for mobiles is Harvest Town. Your typical farm life RPG where you slowly build up your farm, cosy up to the people in your village, perhaps fall in love, otherwise enjoy the freedom of raising your own chickens. Fans of Harvest Moon and the likes will enjoy this slow, but cosy game.

At the end of the day, no matter which of these two foldables you’ve got your eye on, both of these are remarkably capable devices and will be able to handle whatever game you throw at it, even Crysis.
