One of my favourite games of the “modern” era is Pokémon Sword and Shield. While it’s not exactly the most fantastic game of all time, it was the first Pokémon I had played after quite a long stint of not owning a Nintendo console for a while.
It somehow combined the good old memories I had of playing Pokémon when I was a kid with what I had always imagined a newer version of a Pokémon game would be—that perfect mix of old and new.
My Arcade is riding that same train with the Atari Gamestation Portable. An officially licensed Atari device that takes retro gaming on the go, combining old-school hardware with new-school tech.
The Atari Gamestation Portable will feature a 7-inch, high-resolution display or as high resolution as you can get with Pong and a rechargeable battery. Still, its most defining features will be the built-in Atari controllers.
The device comes standard with a Trak-Ball, Paddle and Keypad, allowing gamers to play the classic Atari games as they were intended. Of course, being officially licensed means that the Atari Gamestatioin Portable will definitely come with those classic games. Although the titles have yet to be announced, My Arcade has stated that a minimum of 200 games will be announced closer to the device’s launch.

Not much else has been said about the device itself, except that it is set to launch near the end of this year, with a rumoured price tag of $149.99. My Arcade also only offers shipping within the U.S., so I guess we’re about to hit up one of our American contacts and ask them to come down to South Africa for Christmas this year.
